Ø Competition Information
· What is Asia Cup?
The International Law Moot Court Competition "Asia Cup" is a moot court competition where students from Asian countries contend for their ability in writing memorials and presenting oral pleadings on a fictitious lawsuit case concerning international human rights and humanitarian laws.
It intends to promote of knowledge and understandings of international human rights and humanitarian law, to build and enlarge human networks by inviting Asian promising students and to contribute to protection and enforcement of human rights, not only in Japan but also around the Asian region.
Having been hosted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs since 2003, this International Law Moot Court is highly reputed among the Asian international law circles. Furthermore, cross-cultural experiences and construction of mutual understandings among delegation teams from Asian countries and Japanese participants raise outstanding occasion of international cooperation in human rights education and dissemination of international human rights and humanitarian treaties.
· Competition Format
The Asia Cup comprises of two parts: a written memorial and several rounds of oral pleadings, both of which are in English. To qualify for this competition, each participating team shall be composed of no more than four (4) students currently enrolled in an undergraduate program. Graduate students are not accepted for the purpose of this game.
Every year, the Asia Cup problem will be announce in March, followed by a memorial-based selection procedure in June before the final international contest in August in Tokyo. Each country can only be represented by one team; exceptions are rarely acceptable and only in unusual situations. The competition committee has the discretion to determine the representing team for each country based on the result of memorial reviewing. Over the past decade, Asia Cup has been a main arena in which top-tier law schools compete in their international law education.
Ø PKU Law School and Asia Cup
In China, Tsinghua University Law School, Renmin University law School and the Law School of China University of Political Science and Law all participated in this competition. In its premiere in 2012, PKU Asia Cup Team fielded a team of four members and was successfully selected as the only team qualified for the international round on behalf of China. In the international round, Mendtuvshin '14 LL.B and Liu Zhixin '15 LL.B won the first place and third place for best oralist.

“亚洲杯”模拟法庭竞赛
一、简介
“亚洲杯”国际法模拟法庭竞赛,旨在邀请来自亚洲各国的法律学生,在一个涉及国际人权法和人道法的虚拟法律案件中,通过写作书状和口头答辩的方式来展开竞争。
这一赛事旨在增进学生对国际人权法和人道法领域的知识和理解,通过邀请亚洲各国的优秀学生共同参与竞赛来建立和扩大人际网络,同时为亚洲地区的人权保障与实施作出贡献。
自2003年日本外务省举办首届“亚洲杯”开始,该模拟法庭在亚洲国际法学界一直享有很高的声誉。此外,跨文化交流的经历以及亚洲各国代表队在比赛中建立起来的相互理解,为人权教育的开展和国际人权、人道主义条约的普及提供了一个绝佳的机会。
二、构成
该模拟法庭竞赛由书状写作和口头答辩两个环节组成。每个代表队由2至4名队员组成,所有队员必须为本科生。
三、日程
该模拟法庭竞赛始于每年三月,并于此时公布当年的赛题和官方规则。每年六月,竞赛主办方将公布进入口头答辩环节的外国代表队名单。八月,该项赛事将以在日本进行的口头答辩结束。
四、参赛队伍
竞赛主办方通常会从每个国家选拔出一个代表队。这一选拔是根据各队提交的书状进行的。在特殊情况下,主办方也可能在某一个国家选取两个或两个以上的代表队。通常参与竞赛的代表队来自以下国家和地区:中国大陆(人民大学和清华大学代表队曾经参与过)、中国香港特别行政区、中国台湾地区、日本、新加坡、菲律宾、马来西亚、泰国、印度尼西亚和越南。
